β Frequently Asked Questions
What is Migraine Tracker and how does it help me?
Migraine Tracker is designed to bridge the communication gap between migraine patients and their doctors. Two numbers dictate migraine treatment access: qualifying for preventive treatments (like CGRP inhibitors or Botox) requires documented proof of chronic migraine (β₯15 headache days/month, β₯8 of them with migraine features, over three months), while acute medication overuse (β₯10 or β₯15 days/month depending on drug class) can silently worsen attacks. Migraine Tracker accurately computes these clinical metrics from your daily logs so you can present clear, irrefutable evidence to your neurologist.
Does Migraine Tracker provide a medical diagnosis?
No. Migraine Tracker is an objective evidence collection and reporting tool, not a diagnostic system. It computes clinical day-counts and identifies patterns based on established international criteria (such as the ICHD-3 classification), but formal medical diagnosis and treatment plans can only be established by a qualified neurologist or physician.
How does the Medication Overuse (MOH) warning work?
Frequent use of acute medications can inadvertently trigger medication-overuse headaches (rebound headaches). The app's medication catalogue categorizes each drug and tracks your monthly usage days. It alerts you when your acute medication days approach or exceed established safety thresholds (β₯10 days/month for triptans, ergots, opioids, and combination analgesics; β₯15 days/month for simple analgesics like ibuprofen, paracetamol, or aspirin).
Where is my health data stored? Is it private?
Your health data is stored 100% locally on your device in an encrypted, sandboxed SQLite database. Migraine Tracker operates with zero remote servers, no cloud database, no mandatory user accounts, and no third-party tracking or advertising SDKs. Your sensitive health logs never leave your physical phone unless you explicitly tap export to share a report with your doctor.
How do I generate and share a report with my doctor?
Navigate to the Report tab in the app. Select your desired time period (e.g., Last 30 Days, 90 Days, or Custom Range). The app will assemble your attacks, pain intensities, medication days, and trigger patterns into a standardized clinical PDF report or raw CSV file. Tap "Share PDF" to print, AirDrop, email, or save the report directly to your files.
How do backups and switching to a new phone work?
Because the app does not maintain proprietary cloud servers, backups are managed through your phone's native operating system backup:
- iOS (iPhone): Backed up automatically via your personal Apple iCloud Device Backup.
- Android: Backed up automatically via your personal Google Drive / Android Backup service.
When you restore a new phone from your personal backup, your Migraine Tracker database restores seamlessly.
Can I export or delete all of my data?
Yes. You have total ownership over your data. In the app's Settings screen, you can export all logged data into CSV format. If you wish to wipe your logs, you can reset data directly in Settings or delete the application from your device, which immediately purges the local SQLite database.
Are there subscriptions, ads, or paywalls?
Migraine Tracker is built as a privacy-first utility. The core tracking, head map, medication warnings, and doctor-ready PDF and CSV export tools are available without intrusive ads, subscription paywalls, or personal data harvesting.
π§ Troubleshooting & Common Fixes
PDF Report will not export or share sheet does not open?
- Ensure you have sufficient free storage space on your device.
- Verify that you have an app capable of receiving files (such as Files, Drive, Mail, or a PDF reader).
- If the system share sheet fails to open, restart the app and try exporting a shorter date range (e.g., Last 30 Days).
Reminders or unclosed attack prompts not appearing?
- Open your phone's Settings > Notifications > Migraine.
- Ensure "Allow Notifications" and "Banners / Badges" are enabled.
- Check that your device is not in a restrictive "Do Not Disturb" or "Focus" mode that silences local app alerts.
Switched to a new phone and logs didn't appear?
- Ensure your new device was restored from the iCloud or Google Drive backup of your previous phone.
- Verify that the same Apple ID or Google Account was used during phone setup.
